What to Expect

Daily responsibilities will include interviewing and educating patients, administering local anesthesia, assisting with procedures, documenting in an EMR, and scheduling appointments. Effort will be made to tailor the experience to the specific interests and motivations of each gap year student. Gap year students will also have the opportunity to advance their research skills by contributing to an ongoing clinical research project or initiating a project of their own design.

The overarching goals of the gap year program are to help students become more attractive candidates for medical school and to cultivate the critical thinking skills vital to the medical profession. In this vein, gap year students will be challenged to learn the fundamentals of dermatology and think from the perspective of a physician.
